Dr. Adrianne “Patti” Smith’s half a dozen distinguished careers add up to a unique set of accomplishments for which she has received national and international acclaim. Dr. Smith is a decorated United States Air Force veteran and, during her nine years of active duty, is credited with a series of advancements in her specialty of wound care, a critically important specialty for the military. Her final tour was as the Department Chief of Emergency Services and EMS Director for the 375th Medical Group, Scott AFB, IL.

A successful entrepreneur, Dr, Smith has pioneered a number of training programs and protocols which have influenced the treatment of wounds in the military, the public and private sectors globally and which have been the subject of scores of lectures, articles, book chapters, citations and were compiled into a book, Wound Care Practice 1st edition.

Dr. Smith has applied her managerial and administrative talents in the corporate world, serving in leadership positions for a number of the country’s most innovative companies, including Kinetic Concepts (KCI) in San Antonio, Regenesis Biomedical and BioD LLC before assuming her latest role as Chief Science Officer for San Antonio-based, NuHope, a unique treatment center bringing the expertise of a wide variety of medical specialists and health professionals to treat patients with opioid dependency and debilitating pain in addition to offering preoperative assessments.

Her broad career and dedication to cutting edge research have resulted in significant improvements in treating patients and training physicians. This has earned her many awards and honors from both military and her professional peers. While on active duty she received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and National Defense Medal. In 2003, she was given the most prestigious award for her contributions to Hyperbaric Medicine and in 2004 she was recognized as the Physician of the Year for her teaching and patient care at the Texas Diabetes Institute (TDI) in San Antonio, Texas. She was one of the first eight candidates distinguished with recognition at a Masters level by the American Professional Wound Care Association (APWCA) in Wound Care.

Dr. Smith graduated from Duke University, cum laude, received her MD from Washington University Medical School (St. Louis) and completed fellowships and post graduate training in Internal Medicine, Emergency Care and Hyperbaric Medicine in Wound Care.

Dr. Smith grew up in a military family, spending time in Ohio, North Carolina and Hawaii during her formative years. She was taught to fish at a young age and spent summers camping and hiking with her family. She loves to garden, venture out into nature and continues to search out opportunities to fish in streams, lakes and the deep sea whenever possible.
